Assignment: Paper 2/Group Oral Presentation 3
REQUEST FOR A PROPOSAL (RFP): Grassroot Volunteer Project
The Programs in Language, Culture and Professional Advancement (PLCPA) is looking to do a pilot sponsoring of a one-time Grassroot Volunteer Project.
The PLCPA is requesting proposals that inform and persuade them to sponsor a worthy Grassroot Volunteer Project. People who volunteer in grassroot projects usually find ways to give back to the community. Engaging in a pilot project will enable PLCPA to gauge whether the project will be able to help build a sustainable relationship with the target group that they do the project with. PLCPA would like you to help think of creative, thoughtful and practical ideas that would highlight the PLCPA slogan of “Make Your Positive Mark on the World” while making a difference in the community that they serve or are a part of.
Look within the university and in the neighboring towns to identify what Grassroot volunteer Project PLCPA faculty, staff and students can partake.
The PLCPA, like many other university departments, is bound by a very strict budget. The budget for their volunteer project is only $1,000.00.
My part is:
· Letter of Transmittal
· Primary Research Attachments (interview with chief committee member)
All proposals should cite their research in APA Formatting.
Your Task: Write a formal proposal fulfilling the PLCPA’s RFP. You will be assigned to a group, and you and your team must all collaborate with one another on all ideas and writing for the assignment. You will also present with your team in an Oral Presentation.
Requirements:
1. All groups must collaborate and contribute equal parts work.
· The draft of Proposal should include details about the primary research the team will conduct. Provide for example, the proposed documents analysis plans and the proposed observation plans as well as any research that the team has conducted to initialize the volunteer project.
· All primary research used for the assignment must be attached to the paper according to Formatting Requirements, and must include information about those surveyed, the date and time, as well as any survey or interview questions and correspondence.
· The final version of the proposal will be scored using the attached grid.
All Letter of Transmittals must be addressed to:

You have great reflection. I could not concur more with you on the importance of involving students directly and indirectly in the learning procedure and how it will facilitate teachers to assess the learner performance in their developmental phases. You noted that the teacher should focus on developing the learners’ capacity to perceive and appreciate things from different learning perspectives. I do agree with you, but how can we do that? I would like to know your opinion on this point.
Regarding to the memorization strategy of learning, memorization is one of the most difficult way for me to deal with. I could not memorize a lot and I can spend a night to memorize one passage. Till today, I could not find a way that makes me able to memorize more. It is really important that teachers and instructors understand that memorization for some students, like me, is very hard and sometimes impossible to memorize.
Critique 2
Meaningful learning occurs when learners are ready, and the materials are appropriate to the learners. If we don' t have any information about the learners, the materials we prepare for the learners might be useless. So I think knowing the readiness of the leaners is very important, and all the learners have different needs, that's why teaching learning strategies is very important. Even the leaners have exposed different learning and cognitive environment, they can choose a strategy we teach , which helps them experience meaningful learning.
Critique 3
I really liked your reflection and the way you clearly stated your opinion. I noticed that you didn’t talk about both Bruner’s and Vygotsky’s theories mentioned by Driscoll (2005), in this week’s chapter. I would love to read more about your opinion regarding these two important theories by these two great figures and maybe compare them with the model of Collins and Stevens.
Critique 4
“The teacher involve students directly in the learning process because this will help them appreciate their weaknesses” I was wandering if the students involve in the learning process how they will appreciate their weakness? I think no one appreciate his\her weakness all of us could appreciate our hard work but not our weakness. What do you think? You said, “Learning should not be viewed as a class an in-class process alone rather a lifelong process that takes places everywhere” I believe that what we have learned in any educational place should we benefit from it to solve the problems outside of educational place. However, you mentioned, ”The process of meaningful learning is an outcome of interaction of the teaching process, and the way the learner is receiving and processing the information” but do you think also that culture and social play important role to produce meaningful learning process?

The model is “old school” meaning a teacher creates a school of thought by attracting excellent students. It is the students who bring prominence and prestige to the school through their accomplishments.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. BOARD’S STRUCTURE 5 member board Each member has one vote Decisions will have to be unanimous These 5 “high ranking” members will be burdened with the responsibility of organizing all the student body to volunteer and share their ideas and concerns with the board and then the board will inform the administration and will provide solutions to any problems that might occur.
5. A sign up sheet will circulate around the university campus along with an online sign up sheet for a period of 2 weeks (if NYC will allow us to use their current web page as a medium for us to communicate this message.)
6. After all sign up sheets are collected then volunteers will be appointed to different positions.
7.
8. Division of Responsibilities All projects that will be undertaken will need to be lead and spearheaded by a chosen volunteer. Here again volunteers during the sign ups will have to answer some questions that will help us understand their strengths and weaknesses. Thus, providing the board with enough information enabling us to choose the appropriate volunteer for the right position.
11. Future Projects Radio - Since classes begin at 9am and end at 9pm we want to establish 6 2 hour shows. This could become a very successful approach of informing the university’s student body of any news regarding the university itself as well as informing of any of the boards decisions. The radio will create a feeling of community for our school that currently is lacking.
12. Future Projects Newspaper -Another way to inform and bring students together is the weekly newspaper.
13. Future Projects Event Management - This will be a group of volunteers that will organize ideas for trips to educational and cultural locations as well as events of an entertaining character to present to the board that will then make a final decision and begin to incarnate the project.
